Photos Taken 6th March 2011

Here is a selection of photos taken by Declan of various flights at Tyrella 6th March 2011.

Happy at last?!

Taming the beast has been quite a job, but from the looks of it, it was worth the effort! Of course it could be the sticker I stuck on the cowl, hinting (to the engine) that if it was not gonna behave it would end up at the bottom of the nearby ocean!

Let’s say, the main engine problem was Not Enough Fuel, caused by various carburetor bits, not being quite adjusted/matched as they should have been. It really helps to read all of the Walbro manuals to give you an idea of what is supposed to happen, and then you can figure out why it does not happen, and then you go and get the big adjustment hammer to make it so!

I must say, the one flight I had with it, was actually nice. It flies like a (overpowered) trainer, and the landing speed is so slow it catches you out! If al else fails, a pound of gravity should sort it out ;-)

Fly past...

10" besides the runway? ok then..

Look at me, wheels up!!

..na, I'm not so sure about that...

Tigers over Tyrella..

Could be the title of a new book, but it’s simpler: It’s only Gerry and Collin having some fun.

Owen is the creator of this nice video!

Marc just sent me a few photos from that brill weekend..

Snow in Tyrella??

Early spring and we have snow!  Not to be detered, a solution is quickly found: put some bottles on the wheels, and you have instant ski’s. By the looks of it, both Colin and Dessie were the brave lads today.

..bottle ski's, who cares?..

..yes, that's Tyrella!

Dessie's new toy??

..Cub with ski's..

Pitts special, that for sure!!

Below a few pics of Dessies Pitts.

It’s been flying a lot recently, hence the ‘tapes’ to keep all the vital bits together. Somewhere it reminds me of the story you hear telling about the old B-52′s: ‘A collection of loose spareparts, generally moving in the same direction.’

..ready??

Never mind, it flies, it’s just thirsty, drinking approx 70cc/min, and if you run out of fuel you have to get home without the fan keeping you cool..

...fuel selectors, what???

just cleared the wires..Ian took all these pics, it's nice to be able to use a good camera! Thks Ian...and down safely..

.. yes, horses do leave piles of the stuff on the field...

Some nice scenery.

I found some very nice pics from Peter’s Cub.

...cleared to land..

..hi there..

And a RTF waterplane. Flew nice too..

Peter fuelling up his waterplane.

what do you mean it's a bit windy..

35 mph wind? That all?? Phelim certainly enjoyed himself going full blast down the field. My camera never managed to catch him going past.

A few slow passes were needed to get him in the picture. Of course Roxy like to chase planes, she does not understand what a waste of time that is. They will come down eventually, all you got to do is wait! Silly dog..

This is a slow pass for the benefit of my camera, with Roxy doing her best to catch up..

..is that close enough for you??

..is that close enough for you??

Sometimes objects are closer than they appear to be on your camera viewer ;-)

Gerry had a new Tiger Moth, or at least the engine was new, and needed some running in.  Later on, a pretty bad gust of wind flipped it on it’s back, even though it was weighted and tethered down. Moral of the story: in high winds, sit on it!

Long time no see..

I know, I’ve been in hiding! Since there was nothing extremely exiting to report, there were no stories. But since the summer is definitely on the way south, it is a good time to catch with some pictures. This Sunday was actually a good day, almost no wind, a bit chilly, but for the rest, nice.

DSC00390(1)Dessy flew his big Yak. There are still a few minor issues to be sorted, but as long as the plane goes home the way it arrived, all is well!
