Here is a selection of photos taken by Declan of various flights at Tyrella 6th March 2011.

Let’s say, the main engine problem was Not Enough Fuel, caused by various carburetor bits, not being quite adjusted/matched as they should have been. It really helps to read all of the Walbro manuals to give you an idea of what is supposed to happen, and then you can figure out why it does not happen, and then you go and get the big adjustment hammer to make it so!

I must say, the one flight I had with it, was actually nice. It flies like a (overpowered) trainer, and the landing speed is so slow it catches you out! If al else fails, a pound of gravity should sort it out

We will fly Basic/Sportsman & Intermediate (as per Ballymoney & Tyrella) and any aeroplane can be used from a EEP foamy to a £10000 jet!

Marc just sent me a few photos from that brill weekend..

It’s been flying a lot recently, hence the ‘tapes’ to keep all the vital bits together. Somewhere it reminds me of the story you hear telling about the old B-52′s: ‘A collection of loose spareparts, generally moving in the same direction.’

Never mind, it flies, it’s just thirsty, drinking approx 70cc/min, and if you run out of fuel you have to get home without the fan keeping you cool..

A few slow passes were needed to get him in the picture. Of course Roxy like to chase planes, she does not understand what a waste of time that is. They will come down eventually, all you got to do is wait! Silly dog..

Gerry getting plenty advise on how to rig a biplane.

 

 

Gerry had a new Tiger Moth, or at least the engine was new, and needed some running in.  Later on, a pretty bad gust of wind flipped it on it’s back, even though it was weighted and tethered down. Moral of the story: in high winds, sit on it!

Dessy flew his big Yak. There are still a few minor issues to be sorted, but as long as the plane goes home the way it arrived, all is well!

Unfortunately Gerry was less lucky.  His QQ Yak suffered from the shakes at full throttle. In the haste to come down to terra firma, the advantages of the famous No-Glue construction became once more obvious. The LG departed as it always does. The shakes were located, and will be fixed before next flights.  But, not to be deterred easily, another Yak was launched:

It flies really nice, and is always a good way to relax. 

Iain was up practising again, very determined to get that official ‘A-cert’.

Ivan was having fun with his Foamy, this was a maiden flight, but since these things always fly, it’s no challenge.

Of course there was more action, but as seems customary, my camera battery always decides that it is empty when I need it. All in all a pleasant afternoon was had by all…
