..hailstones and gales and white fluffy stuff..

Yes, it’s that time of the year, when I finally retreat to a warm spot in front of my monitor.
Now is as good a time as any to update all the internal bits of the website, and you can be sure that something got bent in the process ;-)

So, if you spot something the should be working, but does not, just shout!

In the meantime, I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy dry, sunny 2012!

Kees.

Art Tech Diamond 2500

Tom arrived this weekend with a new glider, a massive EPO beast with a wing span (2670 mm).  This is what i would call a real ready to fly model with everything pre fitted including  its six servos a 14×6 folding prop strapped on  to a A3720 brushless outrunner and a 60 AMP speed controller all powered by a 4 cell lipo. ..

The test flight went with out a issue, there was even enought power to make Desi’s hand launch look good..

Area Aerobatics 2011

This weekend Mathew and his dad Trevor had organized round two of this year’s area aerobatics competition to be held at Tmac. So a few off us took advantage and decided to stay over as luck would have it the strong winds disappeared and left us with  light winds and fantastic sunshine..

Here’s  a few photos from the competition..

Port Rush pics

Newcastle 2010

Article shamelessly borrowed from UMAC.

Harry Ferguson himself would have been chuffed with the turn out that attended Newcastle on the 7th and 8th of August, with crowds of around 100,000 filling the streets to see the Red Arrows exhilarating display.

We had been in talks with Newcastle council from last year as to the events that were happening that weekend and if the weather held up we knew that we were in for a treat not just from the Red Arrows but from all the events including Heli flights around the Mournes`.

Air Cadets from Ballynahinch were bringing along a Hunter aircraft cockpit. A fly past from a CASA from the Irish air force were also scheduled along with many other displays (Not forgetting the static display from UMAC).

As the date approached we had arranged to meet up outside the Civic centre around 9.30am to allow plenty of time to set up the marquee and get the models assembled. There was a large selection of models on display to include large scale models, world war 2 models, large turbine jets, night flying Zaggies and not forgetting , Helicopters. Owen Hillis brought his beautiful Vario Bell 212 and for me the show stopper had to be Davy Murchies Vairo Lama with a 120 Jakadofsky turbine (this has to be one of the largest if not the largest turbine heli in the North).

It wasn’t long until people started to gather around the marquee to have a look at the models and engines put out on display and most of the afternoon there was a line of at least three people deep looking and asking questions which keep us busy until the Red Arrows started doing their thing. Sunday started off much the same as Saturday and we decided not to put the marquee up, this made things a lot more open for the public to view the models and seem to make things more relaxed giving us more time to chat, I had spoken to modellers from Holland, England and the USA who were over on holiday .

The whole weekend was fantastic and I was amazed at the amount of people showing interest in taking up this wonderful hobby of ours.

More photo’s can be found on the pic’s page..

enjoy!

IMAC is here!

Just to remind you that this weekend we are hosting the IMAC-NI event. At the moment the first contestants will have arrived, and it looks like a great weekend is ready to start!

And don’t forget, our own Phelim flies in this contest too!

For all the latest info see the IMAC website.

Hope to see you all over the weekend!

Ian's got his A..

It’s been coming a long time, but Sunday it finally happened. I think Ian made history by getting himself the First A-certificate in Tyrella.  (correct me if I am wrong!) but if not the first, it was certainly the first in 2010.

However, rumours have it the A-Cert was done under more difficult conditions than usual, and not in front of the clubhut, so does it really count??

Never mind, a big congratulations to Ian, and I’m sure he’ll be on his way soon for the ‘B’.

Ian and examiner Matthew.

Yep, we can see the 'A' clearly!

Did we miss someone???

Peter's HABU

Another Habu takes to the air.  Easy to build, easy to fly.

..what do you mean it's my fault..

Peter flying his Habu, while Dessie walk out with Ian's trainer.

Gerry has been spotted..

wee gerry down club

..practising for his B-certificate.

(At least that’s what the rumour mill says.)

What’s not quite clear yet, is why he is not using his tranny to fly the Cougar??

(date says 15 Nov, there was Sunshine on the field, not like today, all I can see is waterfalls cascading down the road. Ah well, maybe it’ll clear up later..

New toys..

Magically one of those contraptions for cutting the grass appeared on the field last week. But tell you what, starting a plane is easier then running one of those things! However, as we discovered, without a working battery, you are stuck. (And you have to push the darn thing back to base.) Never mind, all will be sorted soon. DSC00479
Owen brought his new heli, and had some nice flights with it. Of course, never satisfied with merely flying, someone had the brilliant idea to stick a camera in the heli. No doubt we will see the results soon. First impressions of the resultant video: lots of wobbly sky. DSC00483

The rest of those there do what they usually do: take planes apart, try to start reluctant engines, have flight or two, drink some tea, walk the dog, have a natter..

It was another pleasant afternoon, but by 4 the lights went out, and most of us headed home. Looks like you have to be there by 10 to enjoy some sunlight!
