The inner Wheelpant support 557 has to be fitted to the lower part of 556 in such a way that there is approx 10-15 mm ‘movement’ possible. To get this distance, some material will have to be removed from 557. When everythig looks ok, take it all apart agian. Additional steps must be performed with the wheelpants 558.
It has to be aligned such that the pressurepoint (most forward point) is approx 20 mm higher than the rear point. (The fuse still ieas on it’s back. This makes sure that the wheelpants are at 0-degrees during normal level flight. Mark the front pressure point, and measure the distance to the building board. (Between 540 and 550 mm) This distance is needed in one of the following steps.
Glue part 558A with good 5 min. epoxy to the wheelpant. When the glue has set, the wheelpant can be slid onto the axle and aligned. To set the correct angle, measure and adjust to the values just recorded.
When everything looks ok, the holes in the the support can be transferred to the wheelpants. Pre-drill with a 1 mm drillbit and use screws 558 to secure them.
Next the bank angle and toe-in of the wheelpants must be adjusted. It helps to look at the seam on the pants, when properly adjusted the distance at the front should be approx 20mm compared to the distance at the rear.
Toe-in makes the model track straight, at least on grass surfaces there is hardly any need for rudder corrections.
Now slide the outer wheelpant supprt on the axle and make sure that the pants are tilted slightly outwards, so that when the model sits on it’s feet the pants will be exactly vertical.
Check everything again, and when all is well, markt he position of 558c on the pants. After this, take everything apart and using 5 min epoxy, glue the supports to the wheelpants. Cover 556 can now also be glued to the landinggear. (slow epoxy) The bottom section should be slightly sanded back at an angle to allow it to be pushe far enough into the top half, so that it does not hit the rear support.
